Mashpee is the home of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe. The Wampanoag, ‘People of the First Light/People of the Dawn’, are an important part of Mashpee’s rich culture to this day. The tribe operates the Mashpee Wampanoag Museum and the Old Indian Meeting House. You won’t want to miss their annual Powwow held each July at the Cape Cod Fairgrounds.
If you love the outdoors, you will love Mashpee’s fresh ponds, ocean beaches and vast trails. South Cape Beach State Park has over a mile of sandy white beach. Mashpee’s many ponds are perfect for swimming, fishing and boating. Hike Mashpee’s seemingly endless trails at John’s Pond Conservation Area, Mashpee River Woodlands and the Lowell Holly Reservation, to name a few.
