Visiting Cape Cod around Independence Day will leave you with lasting memories. After all, this area is where the Mayflower first landed before carrying on to Plymouth, making it one of the country’s most important historical locations.
Booking a vacation rental allows you to grab some groceries at a nearby market and organize a 4th of July BBQ for your family, so you can experience the holiday weekend like a local.
In addition, the events and experiences you’ll find on the Cape are second to none, as parades, gatherings, and, of course, fireworks take place in nearly every town.
Here’s a quick look at the fireworks schedule for the 2022 4th of July weekend on Cape Cod.
Rock Harbor in Orleans
Because there are so many fireworks displays on the 4th of July, organizers in Orleans are holding their event on Friday, July 1, at Rock Harbor. The show starts at dusk and is easily visible from Skaket Beach or Rock Harbor Beach. Both spots have on-site parking, but you’ll want to get there early to ensure you can find a space.
Alternatively, the fireworks will be visible from Crosby Landing and Linnell Landing beaches in Brewster and First Encounter Beach in Eastham, making them viable options if your vacation rental is close to those locations.
Veterans Field in Chatham
Another early fireworks show is scheduled for Saturday, July 2, at Veterans Field in Chatham. This show gets started at about 9:00 PM, although you’re encouraged to show up early because there will be children’s activities beginning at 6:00.
Veterans Field also sits in downtown Chatham, so you can grab some dinner on Main Street before wandering to the baseball diamond to catch the festivities.
Chatham also hosts a parade at 9:30 AM on July 4 that’s one of the oldest annual Independence Day events in the entire country.
Falmouth Heights Beach
Falmouth Heights Beach is a scenic spot near Falmouth Inner Harbor that features views out to Martha’s Vineyard. It’s also hosting a fireworks show on July 4, 2022, that was voted as one of the country’s ten best by Travel and Leisure Magazine in the past. Choreographed music also accompanies the fireworks on 102.9 FM.
The display kicks off at dusk and will leave you with a memorable evening on Cape Cod. Keep in mind that the area around the beach becomes a tow-away zone starting at 4:00 PM, and nearby parking is scarce. As a result, you might want to find an alternative method to get to the beach that night.
Shawme Pond in Sandwich
The 4th of July is a full-day event in Sandwich, starting with a 5k road race at 9:00 AM. The Spirit of Sandwich Parade follows at 11:00 AM, and there are field games, picnics, and the famous egg toss event at Henry T. Wing School in the afternoon.
The festivities will continue once the sun starts to set, as the Moonlighters will perform a free concert behind Town Hall at 7:30, and there will be a boat parade on Shawme Pond starting at 9:00 PM.
Of course, the big event is the fireworks, which kick off at about 10:00 PM over Shawme Pond. You can see the fireworks from many locations around downtown Sandwich, although the area behind Town Hall is your best bet for a solid vantage point.
Provincetown Harbor
It should be no surprise that Provincetown is hosting a 4th of July fireworks display because there’s always something happening in PTown. This particular show is notable because some tour operators offer fireworks cruises, providing an unparalleled view of the action on Provincetown Harbor.
Not to worry if you can’t get aboard, though, because the beaches around MacMillian offer excellent vantage points, as do many of the oceanfront restaurants in the area.
There’s a festive atmosphere throughout Provincetown all 4th of July weekend, so don’t miss out on the action when staying in town.
Hyannis Harbor
The Hyannis Harbor 4th of July fireworks are always some of the most anticipated because they’re visible from many Lewis Bay beaches.
However, this year’s fireworks will take place on Labor Day Weekend, giving locals and visitors another opportunity to check out a display this summer. Hyannis will still have a large 4th of July event, though, including a boat parade and numerous free concerts throughout the day.
Your Holiday Weekend
You couldn’t pick a better time to visit Cape Cod than Independence Day Weekend because the festivities are in full gear. After a couple of years where people were unsure if they should celebrate, 2022 will be nearly back to normal, allowing you to make the most of your vacation to the Cape.
Book your vacation rental near a venue hosting a fireworks show to ensure you’re within walking distance of the event and don’t have to worry about parking.
