Vacationing in Pocasset, Massachusetts

Cape Cod is full of wonderful towns and villages worth visiting on vacation. No matter which section of the Cape you book your vacation rental in, you can trust you’ll find plenty of beautiful spots to check out both day and night.

One of the most convenient communities to vacation in is Pocasset, a village in the town of Bourne. Pocasset sits just over the Bourne Bridge on the Cape side of the Cape Cod Canal, making it easy to access as you travel to this part of the world.

Pocasset is popular with vacationers because it’s relatively quiet and has calm, protected beaches on Pocasset Harbor and Hen’s Cove. It also has enough dining and activity nearby to keep you busy.

Here’s a look at what you can expect when booking a vacation rental in Pocasset, Massachusetts.

Beautiful Little Beaches

Pocasset’s beaches don’t attract the same crowds as the larger sections of sand in Hyannis, Harwich, and West Dennis because there simply isn’t enough space. These beaches are relatively small and, therefore, it’s mostly locals who aren’t looking for a lively scene who frequent them. Don’t let that dissuade you, though, as these oceanfront spots are scenic and comfortable for the entire family.

Barlows Landing Beach is a small section of sand at the end of Barlows Landing Road. It has a boat launch and dock, if you happen to bring your vessel with you, and about a dozen parking spots.

Barlows Landing Pocasset, MA

The other beach in Pocasset is Hen’s Cove Public Beach, which is a little larger than Barlows Landing and sits on a protected section of water called Hen’s Cove. There is a boat ramp near Hen’s Cove Beach and a few parking spots right by the sand. You’ll want to get there early to snag a parking space.

A Decent Dining Scene

Although Pocasset isn’t necessarily known for its dining scene, there are a few restaurants worth checking out while staying in the community.

The Chart Room first opened its doors in 1966 and remains one of the Upper Cape’s most popular seafood restaurants. The menu at this venue features its famous quahog chowder, scallops, lobster salad, swordfish, roasted chicken, steak, and cheeseburgers. There’s also an extensive wine list and a selection of domestic and imported beers. At the end of the day, the Chart Room is a favorite place for beachgoers and boaters to enjoy a Mudslide and watch the sunset.

The Corner Cafe is a popular breakfast and lunch spot near Barlows Landing Beach. This restaurant has all your morning-time favorites like bacon and eggs, hashbrowns, toast, and a lunch menu with burgers and sandwiches.

Avocados is a small, counter-service joint offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Many menu items are fried, although you can also grab a roasted chicken, steak, turkey, or vegetables. If you’re in the mood for a quick, yet surprisingly good, meal, Avocados is worth a look.

The Four Ponds Conservation Area

The Four Ponds Conservation Area is a large forest in Bourne that makes it easy to get out and experience nature while vacationing in Pocasset. Each of the park’s ponds has a hiking trail, and there’s a long trail that travels between Barlows Landing Road and Valley Bars Road, as well.

In total, the park encompasses 133 acres and is a wonderful place to escape the bustle of the Cape for a few hours while enjoying the wilderness. You might also see some turtles or rare birds through your travels, especially in the ponds and swaps found throughout the conservation area.

The Cataumet Marina

Getting on the water in Pocasset is easy, thanks to the presence of the Cataumet Marina. The marina features several businesses, so you can select an option based on your desired experience.

First, the Freedom Boat Club operates in the area. Members of this club can access boats all over New England, including places like Chatham, West Dennis, Charlestown, and Falmouth. Once you join the club, all you have to do is reserve a boat at the Cataumet Marina location, and you can take it into Buzzards Bay or explore the Cape Cod Canal during your vacation.

If you own a boat and have brought it with you to the Cape, the Kingman Yacht Center might be an option. This center offers transient and short-term dockage, so you can store your boat there throughout your vacation when you aren’t on the water.

Parker’s Boat Yard also has transient mooring and slips in this area. You’ll want to reserve your spot at Parker’s before heading to Cape Cod, but the result will be excellent service and a boat that’s conveniently stored in an accessible location just outside Pocasset.

Book Your Rental Early

Pocasset, MA, provides a slightly different vacation than many places on the Cape because it remains so quiet in the high season. Of course, the marinas and restaurants will be busy, but the hiking trails and beaches provide an escape you might struggle to find in more central locations.

The other benefit of staying in Pocasset is that you’re minutes from the mainland, helping you avoid traffic when entering and leaving Cape Cod during your next vacation. Search our Bourne vacation rentals here to find your perfect Pocasset getaway.
